Epidermis- most superficial layer of the skin, has closely packed cells called the stratified squamous epithelium, several cells thick(stratified), does not contain any blood vessels, has 5 distinct layers called the stratum basale, spinosum, granulosum, lucidum, and corneum.

Dermis- It is the second layer of the skin, it attaches to the epidermis by the basement membrane, contains blood vessels, nerves, glands, and hair, this layer is high in collagen(strangth) and elastin(stretch), composed of the papillary layer and the reticular layer.

Hypodermis- this is technically not part of the skin, it attached the skin to the underlying organs and tissues, contains adipose tissue(fat) that serves as insulation.
